Paolo Soleri was born in Turin, Italy, in 1919. He received his doctoral degree in architecture from the Turin Polytechnical Institute and apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin West. He settled in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has made a lifelong commitment to experimentation in urban planning. His major project is Arcosanti, an urban laboratory in the high desert of Arizona that has been under construction since 1970. He is the author of several books, including Arcology: The City in the Image of Man and The Omega Seed: An Eschatological Hypothesis.
